Our Dairy Flock
Our dairy sheep have their lambs in March, and we start milking the ewes in April, when the pastures can start to provide good nutrition for them. Lactation requires excellent nutrition, and we put a lot of effort into ensuring that our pastures are absolutely top quality. We supplement our dairy ewes with a small amount of grain, so that their diet is well-balanced. Our ewes are moved to a fresh section of pasture every morning (this is what's called "rotational grazing"), so that they receive top-quality forage each and every day.
Our careful pasture regimen contributes to so many of the healthful properties conferred by grazing animals, such as conjugated linoleic acids (CLAs) and Omega 3 fatty acids. This, in combination with the naturally-high nutrient content of sheeps milk (see the table in the "Our Cheeses and Yogurts" page), make sheeps' milk dairy products naturally nutrient-dense "super foods".
